full circle back to its ancestral homeland. Many thanks to producer Matthew Myers, the cast, crew and the Screen Actors
Guild. Filmed on location in New York City.

Like Me, Only Better
Martin Pickles | 5:20 min (UK, 2007) Animation
Produced by Royal College of Art Animation Department

'Like Me, Only Better' is a laconic comedy about Neuroses,Catholicism and Prozac. A man called Clive tries to become a better person and to overcome his various Obsessive Compulsive disorders. The film establishes a link between his Catholic upbringing, his childhood imagination and his adult phobias and compulsions. A hand-drawn animation in pencil, it moves between Clive's inner and outer worlds.

Filmmaker's Comment: It's the first time I have ever made a film which really has some bearing on my own life a and other people's. It is also a conscious new direction from all my earlier films which were mainly live-action and a bit abstract

Lunch
Donna Kanter | 37:40 min (USA, 2007) Documentary

For the past 40 years a group of writers and performers has been meeting for lunch every other Wednesday at the same restaurant, in the same booth. For 13 of those years they have had the same waitress who inevitably appears just at the punch line. A delicious series of rare moments capturing very funny and interesting people.

Men Lie (RETROSPECTIVE SCREENING)
Cast: Doug DeLuca, Ellia Thompson, Frank Vincent, Michael Imperioli, David Faustino, Tony Sirico, Marilyn Sokol, Judith Malina, Aida Turturro, Nicholas Turturro, Catherine Scorsese

MEN LIE is an award-winning New York indie from filmmaker/author/educator/bon vivant John Gallagher (THE DELI, BLUE MOON, CUPIDITY), filmed in just 11 days on a miniscule budget. Scott cannot overcome the psychological trauma of his destructive upbringing in time to be worthy of his fiancee Jill's love. In content and form, the film parallels classical Greek tragedy. Despite his good intentions, Scott's character contains a fatal flaw unwillingly inherited and over which he has no control. Scott recognizes that permitting his addiction to flourish does not make him happy but jeopardizes the only real love that has blessed his life -- Jill. Yet, Scott cannot be but at odds with himself. In the manner of a Greek chorus, witnesses interrupt the drama at crucial moments to defend, deride, and satirize Scott's lies and unfaithful acts; to take sides in the battle of the sexes; and to warn the audience of the impending unraveling of Scott's deceptions and loss of Jill's innocence.

Filmmaker's Comment: After a frustrating period in Hollywood, I came back to NYC and regained the creative spark that had been stomped into the dirt in LA. Prepped in four weeks, shot on 35mm in 11 days, cut, scored and mixed in four months, MEN LIE hit the festival circuit, was picked up for domestic and overseas distribution, and played art houses throughout the USA. Along with my subsequent feature, THE DELI, it's indicative of what filmmakers could do with limited resources and lots of talented friends during the '90s, before the digital revolution.

Best Feature, Florida Film Festival. Best Independent Feature, Worldfest Houston. Best Comedy, Charleston Film Festival. Best Independent Feature, Ft. Lauderdale Intl Film Festival. Official Selection: Montreal, Oldenburg, Hamburg, Karlovy Vary, Istanbul, Sao Paolo and more.

A man and woman meet at a live butterfly exhibit, and the butterflies reappear and reverberate through their lives in powerful and surprising ways. When the couple encounters relationship problems, each person goes through his or her own metamorphosis and takes a chance on the other.

Filmmaker's Comment: Love is fragile and ephemeral like a butterfly, but with proper care it can outlast the seasons.
