SaSa

Runtime: 60 minutes

In the heart of the jungle, by the Indian-Burmese border, a flicker of hope burns bright -- for the moment. When a young Burmese boy, “SaSa” (an alias) from the Chin State walked for seven days out of the jungle 14 years ago, there was no way of knowing that he would survive the years ahead of him. He arrived in Rangoon, wet, hungry, homeless and without a friend to call upon. He didn't even know how to ask for help in any language other than his native Chin dialect. Buoyed by the hopes and dreams of his own villagers, those in the Chin State that he met along the way and his deeply spiritual family (who remained and still do at the mercy of the Myanmar Regime), SaSa left the village where he'd watched so many of his friends and relatives die from preventable deaths: tuberculosis; malaria; dehydration; malnutrition; hunger; and childbirth. His father prayed that SaSa would study to become a doctor so that one day he would return to his people -- to save them. That day has come.
